Niloufar Shahbazi
Composer and Kamānche player
Iranian, based in London—composing, performing, experimenting, reading, thinking… always following whatever pulls me forward, even if I don’t know where it’s taking me.
Sometimes Persian classical, sometimes experimental, often somewhere in between…
and sometimes completely lost at first!
But …
I find light in different ways;
It comes from the feeling when I play Kamānche;
from sound, from stories, from people.
Music is a way to mix tradition with new ideas, creating something personal that can still reach peace and calmness in this *** world.
Composing shapes my days;
each piece is like a conversation—between cultures, emotions, memories, and imagination. Over the years, music has taken me to unexpected places—from solo instruments to ensembles, orchestras, and stage projects—across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.
Collaboration adds another layer of light;
keeping everything alive. Working with Yarava Music Group, Ghamar Ensemble, and musicians and artists from around the world—through performances, workshops, and recordings—always exploring ways music can connect people.
Teaching is a moving light of its own;
watching curiosity, confidence, and imagination grow through sound never gets old. Guiding kids and young musicians through music theory, ensemble work, and creative play lets these ideas move in ways you don’t plan but somehow feel completely right.
Let’s connect!
